Meet the Team

I’m a 28 year old PC Tech who is lucky to be married to a wonderful woman and the proud father of a 1 yr old GoldenDoodle. I’m strongly partial to Belgian Ales but will try anything once… and probably twice, especially if its over 8% abv! I got into reviewing beer by being a nerd with a bad memory. I started a spreadsheet to keep track of what I’ve had and what I’ve thought of it. That turned into sharing my thoughts with friends on Facebook, which turned into the Cincinnati Area Beer Tasters Facebook group. Then when I saw Josh inviting people to write content for Queen City Drinks I decided it was time to take what seemed to be the next logical step up for me. And before people ask, because they always do, I do not “currently” home brew and do not “currently” have any interest in it, except for trying what others make! My reasoning is that there are thousands of brewers producing tens of thousands of different beers for me to try, and they know a lot more about what makes a good beer than I do. I’m a relatively recent Cincinnati transplant (about two years now), originally from Michigan, but with stops through Houston and Indianapolis. I’ve been a beer drinker since his undergraduate days (of course), but pursued the “craft beer” path starting three or four years ago. Before that, beer served as more of a inebriant than something that should be savored and enjoyed slowly. I really enjoy IPAs, but am particularly partial to sour/wild ales,  barrel aged stouts and barleywines, and anything else with a touch of the adventurous. I’ve homebrewed a handful of time and look forward to getting into it more in the future, but Steve is definitely the homebrewer out of this crew. I’ve just very recently started getting into whiskeys (primarily bourbon) and am still attempting to get a palate for the nuances of the spirit. It’s something entirely new to me and I’m just getting my legs.

As for my personal life, I’ve been married to a wonderful gal for just almost two years now and, as of me writing this, our daughter will be a year old next month. I live in Northside, the greatest neighborhood in Cincinnati. I tweet personally at @joshosbo if, for whatever reason, you’re interested in my non-alcohol musings.

I am a Cincinnati native who moved back to the Queen City after living in California and England for a few years. Although I was kind of a late bloomer in the world of drinking I like to think I am making up for lost time. I had my first manhattan at the age of 24 and fell in love. Finally, there was a drink that I felt cool ordering and I actually liked the taste. Bourbon is my drink of choice and where I geek out the most, but I honestly enjoy all aspects of drinking. The way it brings people together, the way it combines art, science, and culture, the way a nice drink at the end of the day can make the world seem so much better than it did a few minutes before. My area of expertise is spirits and cocktails but I absolutely enjoy beer and wine as well. Any drink can be a good one if it is done well. When I am not writing for Queen City Drinks I co-host two podcasts: an hour long culture podcast called The Charlie Tonic Hour and a shorter all alcohol show called Bottoms Up. You can find the both shows on iTunes, Stitcher, and on our website I am also the owner and lead guide for Tonic Tours, where we offer small group alcohol-based tours that focus on craft producers as well as hosting classes, tasting and other events.
