Beer Review: Stone Levitation Ale

The last of the beers Stone sent to me. Gives me a mixture of joy and sadness. Joy because my OCD tendencies have been satiated and I can move onto all the other beers in my fridge (Green Flash here I come!). Sadness because that’s the  last of my free Stone beer.

Brewery: Stone
Beer: Levitation Ale
Style: American Amber Ale
Alcohol by Volume: 4.4%
IBUs: 45
Ingredients: Columbus, Amarillo, Simcoe, and Crystal; dry hopped with Amarillo.

This is a very attractive looking beer. Beautiful reddish brown like lightly colored rust. Perfect amount of dirty white head that dropped to a thin layer rather fast but hung around from there on out.

Some hop aroma but not much, what’s there is a nice mixture of citrus and pine with a hint of grass. There is also some toasted malt bringing out a bit of bread and caramel. Nice aroma, not amazing but very nice and very straight to style.

Impressive taste full of great malt and hop flavors which are very well balanced. Herbal and earthy hop flavors show off in pine and orange-citrus action. The malt overwhelms that a little bit with some caramel but more bread. It’s really an impressive complex flavor that lingers for a while. Some hop bitterness but not nothing even close to any kind of IPA.

Crisp clean mouth feel with a heavier body that comes out kinda chewy and ends with a nice dry finish and fair carbonation.

I didn’t intentionally save this and the Sublimely Self-Righteous for last but I ended up saving the best two for last! The Levitation is really a fantastic beer full of good looks and great flavors. By far my favorite Stone beer and certainly something I will be drinking again and encouraging others to try!

FULL DISCLOSURE: This beer was sent to me for free by Stone. To our readers, and any breweries interested in sending me stuff, giving me free beer impacts the review in only 1 way. That way is that I WILL review the beer and I WILL write a blog post about it. Giving me free beer does not guarantee you a favorable review or that I will tell everyone to go buy it or anything like that.
